Stress is something that all of us experience from time to time. Most people see stress as a bad thing, but we can all use a bit of stress now and then. It makes us do things at time when we need a push; is gets us out of our chair; it makes us think about things differently; it makes us seek solutions to problems; and it sometimes makes us sensitive to what others might think of us and our actions.
Everyone will experience stress at some level. We all do, and we should not be afraid. However, we do have to be careful ot stress that is severe or that lasts too long. This is because it will become unhelthy and be hard for us to control. So, although stress has its place in all out lives, we cannot have too much of it.
Too much stress can be disabling. It can make us feel very unhappy, as if we no longer are in control of our lives. It can immobilise us and lower our productivity level, and it can make us fail to operate successfully. However, it is difficult to generalise about stress because a satisfactory level of stress for one person may be a disabling level for anther.
You are probably familiar with charts taht can tell you the appropriate weight for you to be healthy by just looking at your height and age. Unfortunately there is no such table for stress.
