Brake Noise

Verified during road test that problem is in the brake. If the problem is cause by the brakes, pay attention to the type of noise and let that lead to the source of problem.

Brake pads wear sensors are designed to make high-picthed squeal when the pads are worn.



Other causes could be the rotor rubbing against the splash shield or that something has become wedged between the rotor and another part of vehicle. Noise may also be caused by failure to install all of the hardware when replacing a caliper or brake pads.

Sometimes the driver might notice there is strange noise coming out from the wheel when brakes are apply that's cause by rusty mechanism even the rotor itself having score marks or cracks, steering wheel vibration will be perceive at the same time.

Other sources of noise include the pads themselves. Depending on the lining materials, some pads are more prone to make noise. These noise can be like a light wire brush against metal sound, grinding or high-pitched squeal depending on the pad. Particularly the racing pads that use the different lining materials compare to normal brake pads, the racing pads are prone to make noise during braking.

Speaking of pad itself, this has been annoyed my parents for few months, eventually I got inspected and replaced when I got home after my final examination.



Photo above showing the cracking lining and uneven wear, this problem can be eliminate by using sand paper to remove the imperfection surfaces or simply replace a set of new brake pads. Be sure to inspect the brake rotor or spinning mechanism if it is brake shoes, the brake caliper piston, sliding pin and hoses. Brake lining uneven wear mostly causes by the worn rotor surface or simply the low grade brake lining itself, improper installation is rare case. Imbalance wear cause by the uneven pressure for example the clogged brake line(hose) and jammed caliper piston. When brake system service is on going the correct SOP and brake fluid should be use. Noted: Do not mixed the silicon base DOT5 with other grade of fluid. DOT4 is the most common highest grade selection available for legal road vehicle.





Let’s conclude this topic by talking about off road vehicle like 4x4 or pick up. This is common for pick up truck of having this kind of problem particularly after the off road racing event. Due to the extreme road condition the suspension system may have issue after the “abused”, other than the tires, the unsprung weight mechanism, brake pads and rotor itself is badly worn out cause by the mud, sand and tiny rock will stuck between them and create huge amount of unnecessary friction, however, they will replace all the worn out component to prevent any kind of mechanical failure.

HY510, K4-PRO & K5-PRO Thermal Comparison

In today article I will discuss 2 different brand of thermal paste I bought, their claimed performance and product property, finally my test bench result and final conclusion. Before I started the science experiment, I have to say I totally regret to purchase the “K” series product and I will tell you why in the following paragraph.

  2 different thermal paste I purchased at the different time, both purchased on ebay and their shipping and delivery time around 30days arrived my door with the good packaging. The product property and thermal conductive performance of K series thermal paste is mention on their website. K4-PRO has thermal conductivity K>4.6 W/m.K and K5-PRO has thermal conductivity K>5.3 W/m.K both are no electrical conductivity, they also claimed the thermal conductivity is 3 times higher than common thermal pastes and pads.

HY510 has thermal conductivity of K>1.93 W/m.K but did not mention any information about electric conductivity, however, tested the result is non conductivity as well.

  After I introduced the product information, this is the test bench information I should give for better reference. CPU = E2140 1.6GHz, stock heatsink crew mounted method. Motherboard = Gigabyte G31M-S2L. RAM = 1GB 667MHz. No PCIe and No PCI in use.

  Started the testing at room temperature around 28-29°C with well air flow condition during summer night. Stress tested the CPU by using HeavyLoad application to run about 10minutes for each test. First, without unscrew anything on my test bench, the current thermal paste at the time was HY510, so I ran HeavyLoad at the first time, ended my first test of HY510 = 63°C.

 Unscrewed the CPU heatsink, had a looked at the CPU and heatsink surface, the paste was spread out very well covered, greasy and easy to remove thanks to its silicon based. I cleaned up everything by using Polylab contains alcohol 95%.
 



  Second test, I applied K4-Pro to the CPU, ran the same test again. Ended my second test of K4-Pro = 69°C.


  Unscrewed the CPU heatsink, had a looked at the CPU and heatsink surface, the paste was spread out very well covered and this time it was so thin thanks to the low viscosity but harder. After that I cleaned up everything by using Polylab contains alcohol 95%.






  Test No.3, I applied K5-Pro to the CPU, ran the same test again. Ended my test of K5-Pro = 72°C.

  Unscrewed the CPU heatsink, had a looked at the CPU and heatsink surface, the paste was spread out very well covered but it was thick due to the high viscosity for thermal pad replacement and it is harder than HY510 as well. After that I cleaned up everything by using Polylab contains alcohol 95%.



  Finally, I ended up with all the disappointment.

I repeated the same cleaning process, applied HY510 and repeated the same stress test for a few times. Eventually still got me the same result HY510 = 63°C at the same ambient temperature with every factor stayed controlled variable but thermal paste!

So, why am I regret? I paid another RM40 for a lower performance item! I spent 1.5 hour for this experiment just to make sure if there was other factor cause the unsatisfied result, in these tests, the HY510 the lower cost item completely stand out. Why HY510 has lower thermal conductivity than K4 and K5 but has a better performance?

  在新加坡这个繁荣的国家,对于交通安全的管制非常严厉,除了严厉监管陆路车辆规格范围,新加坡法律规定,对于10 年车龄的汽车,车主必须更新昂贵的证书或是直接对“过期”汽车进行报废处理,即便车子状态依旧完美。因此,部分内行的“专家”也趁此机会能够以低廉价格收购这些状态完美的零件转卖他人。一位汽车维修公司的老板在不久前从其他同行得知一个汽车二手进口零件的管道,由于他本身也热衷于汽车改装,所以也在第一时间从新加坡进口了部分改装部件。

  大家都称呼这位老板叫达叔,是吉隆玻人目前已经成家立室和心爱的家人一家三口住在新山的一栋别墅。达叔为人慷慨也没有架子,所以除了受很多后背的尊敬,社交圈子当然也是非常圆滑的,因此也令他的生意越做越大,人脉越来越广。去年八月的某个星期日,他开了一台小货车载了整车的进口二手零件放置在他别墅的车库里,他这下子兴奋极了,因为所有零件也都到齐,准备动工了。他已收购了一台90年代经典跑车M3多时,在这个八月里,达叔利用他假日和平时放工后的闲余时间为他的爱车改装了不少,尤其是性能方面的升级。

  达叔在几个月以后,车子性能方面也调整得七七八八了,平时也多亏他的儿子帮点小忙,常喜欢看着达叔忙东忙西的,虽然只有5岁但挺聪明伶俐的,达叔也因此感到非常开心有儿子的陪伴。他这么想的,车子也差不多做好了,不如趁着学校假期,带孩子出去兜兜风。就在第一天学校假期的晚上,达叔还在车库里忙着善后,他心想今晚山上比较少车辆来往,不如先上山去试一试车。晚上11点多,孩子还在看卡通更本没有睡意,他把孩子牵了过来想带他一起兜风去,孩子走到了车库旁突然就立刻转身跑回睡房里。“你怎么了?”达叔问道。孩子只是小小声的回答他困了,想睡。达叔觉得莫名其妙,怎么孩子刚刚还兴致勃勃的却突然想睡了呢?他稍微和老婆报告了孩子的情况并吩咐她多留意后,就自己开着爱车出门去了。

  达叔沿路开上了山上,也正当性能调整得恰当,他不知觉的把油门越踏越深……时间过了不久,达叔隐约的听到车里传来莫名的怪声,在职业习惯下,达叔立刻把油门收回来,降低排气声浪,想要听清楚声音来源。他把车速维持在时速80公里左右低转速巡航,这时候声音更加清晰了,从后座传来像似金属摩擦声,以每个技术人员的经验,金属摩擦声大多可能随着车子晃动时或是有机械构造连接逻辑性的出现,怎么可能会没有逻辑性的频频发出声音? 在这辆改装车上并没有安装音响以及空调之类的系统,车内与外也是封闭的,达叔再仔细一听之下,这更本就像是人的笑声!在他还很怀疑的时候,他不知怎么的感觉昏昏沉沉,当他回过神来前面就是一个仅被围栏围着的发夹弯,下面就是深谷。这时候他的手机响起,达叔恍然回过神来马上踏上刹车同时把方向盘一转,就在千钧一发之刻车子横向的碰上围栏稳稳的停在悬崖边边,如果手机响迟了一秒,情况就不堪设想了。

  达叔把精神稍微提起来,接通了手机,只听见手机里传来老婆的声音命令他现在立刻返回家里,而且重复的提醒他驾驶千万小心。此时的他已经了解整间事情并不单纯,在手机没有挂上的情况下,一边和老婆保持联系一边低速驾驶安全的到家了。达叔把车子停好后,他老婆立刻冲向前去抱紧了他,便和他说孩子不太对劲,她脸色显得惨白,全身冒冷汗在颤抖着。达叔扶着她快步走进了孩子的房间,只看到全身扭曲,做出完全不符合人体工学动作的孩子,这骇人的一幕把他们吓得不知该怎么办。达叔随后联络了医院,救护人员把孩子送去挂急诊,医生为他注射了镇定剂,情况才有稍微好转。初步判断孩子可能因受了某种极大的惊吓,所以才会不断抽搐。

  孩子还在昏迷状态中,必须留院观察,达叔夫妇两人坐在病床旁,惊魂未定。突然,有一位老伯经过他们的床位,他看了看孩子便对达叔说了一句,“那些东西,不好要了……”。达叔夫妇听了后感觉非常困惑,老伯的一句话又为这件事增加了一丝谜团。达叔没睡,坐在病床旁边想了整晚,他总感觉事有蹊跷,开始慢慢的把所有事情连接起来。孩子不愿意陪他去兜风、车里怪声、在山上差点儿出事故、孩子现在有状况最后老伯说“那些东西”……到底是什么东西呢?天也亮了,他暂时放下公司的工作同时联络了监工,之后买了早餐放着,孩子暂时交给老婆看顾,夫妇俩沟通了一会儿达叔就独自先离开了医院。达叔尝试联络关系人询问进口零件的来源,经过多次的询问之下最后得知那天一整车的进口零件有部分是来自于一起严重的山路坠谷意外,零生还者,另外一位女性车主已经被证实死亡,但大体尚未寻获。他翻查回旧新闻,才发现的确有此事故,而当中尚未寻获大体的女性死者,她当时开的就是一部改装 M3

  达叔愕然发现,难道他拿了那边的零件同时也把死者一路带过来了吗?在他还在猜想的同时,他老婆拨电给他通知他孩子醒过来了,他什么也不想立刻冲回医院去。他到了医院问孩子:“跟爸爸说,为什么那天要跑回去房间呢,发生什么事了吗?”…… 孩子听了很害怕也开始发抖,最后孩子慢慢的说出了当天晚上,他看到了一个没有脸的姐姐穿着破烂的红色衣服站在达叔身后一直瞪着他,全车坐满了不认识的哥哥姐姐,他很怕所以就拒绝了出外兜风的要求,接着他回到房间,当达叔问他什么事的时候,只见那个红衣姐姐向他摇了摇头,所以才不敢说出真相,之后就完全没有记忆了,也不知道自己肢体扭曲的事情。达叔夫妇听了非常害怕,孩子接连三天高烧不退令他们更加担心,最后幸好孩子没事,烧也退了也没有任何异常了,医生才安排他办理出院手续。眼看孩子平安无事,也不想让孩子有不好的回忆所以他们除了努力安慰他以外还对孩子隐瞒了肢体扭曲的事情。达叔相信孩子没有说谎的理由,孩子还非常小,看得见另一个世界的东西也不出奇。

  达叔非常相信孩子所说的一切,所有怪异的事情也都已连成一线。长辈常常告诫我们,宁可信其有,不可信其无。达叔知道是自己带回来的二手零件惹的祸,因为自己没有问清楚零件来源还不听长辈劝告坚持在农历七月份进货,最后还连累了自己心爱的家人,虽然不是每个人都会发生这样的事,但是人一旦倒霉,很多事情都无法解释。达叔看见自己家人最后可以平安无事,真的是祖先保佑,他把车库清仓了,只留下工具、一般零件和家用车,M3爱车进行报废处理,所有进口零件也都废铁处理,虽然废铁回收站的老板都说他奇怪,但是只有他知道事情的真相。

  一年后,达叔家人终于过回平常的生活,孩子也生龙活虎的在家里嬉戏。有一晚,达叔梦见了一个老伯,他感觉老伯似曾相识,老伯在他梦里说了几句话转身就走了,“阿达,以后好好照顾我们家的小达仔啊……你有听我说的话全部拿去丢掉,真是太好了……以后还要对媳妇好一点知道吗,别只是吩咐她这样那样的,记住啊~”……

  人的一生,有的富有,有的清贫;有的幸运,也有的却得遭受地狱一般凌虐的非人类生活,即使到了人生的最后也不得安息。在佛教上有类似的说法,今生得到的恶果,有可能是自己前世、或者是前几世种下的因,也就是自己造的孽,就得由自己承受,还清债物。另一种解释则与此说法有些出入,一切都是由上天为人制造的一条宽庄大道,这是考验,但前提是你必须度过这个考验,不然就是失败收场。虽然各方都有不同的说法,但是有一件事是共同的,就是谁也不知道灾难来领的日子。人生无常,在老一辈的前辈们都知道这个道理,但年青人是不是也这么想呢?……  那就得抓着他们,问个究竟 ……

  位于吉隆坡的某间澡堂闻名海外,到至今仍然吸引无数的观光客以及上班族前往消除疲劳。在1984年,有两位上班族约好了下班一起上澡堂放松,其中一位陈姓男子果然准时8点下班就到了公司楼下大门等,谁不知另一位黄姓男子却迟迟未出现,阿陈眼看天色逐渐阴沉,也刮起了大风,散落一地的枯树叶漫天飞舞,有的树叶还在地上打起了小龙卷,知道老天不作美也打算取消约定直接回家,就随手拿起了大哥大拨电给阿黄通知一声,等了一会儿,另一方接起了电话,听得出阿黄语气稍微低沉,心想他一定是加班太累了,反正也都给他通知过了,就自行回家去了。

  阿陈刚挂电话,头一抬起就往车子那儿走去,坐在车里等空调吹凉了才缓缓的换挡,下山回家去了。在返回家的路途上,阿陈愕然发现怎么街上一贯都是车水马龙,今晚却是异常冷清,店铺都提早关门了吗? 他也没多加理会,继续往前开。车子开着开着,自然而然的就经过了澡堂,“欸,还是澡堂勤力嘛,果然不会辜负客人对你的支持…”。阿陈把车子停好,下车时一阵凉风迎面飘来,他感觉今晚一定会非常的冷,就赶紧收收东西,大步走进了澡堂。他走向柜台和老板请安,他眼看老板怎么也是一副缺氧的样子,“女服务员们呢?”他问道,老板也没回答,只是递了毛巾和浴衣给他,气氛也都因为这样令整间澡堂都死气沉沉的。

  好啦,手续办好了,他还纳闷着自己明明是常客,却得到这样的服务时,突然后方有人搭肩膀,吓了阿陈一跳。原来是阿黄,怎么现在才来,你不是加班吗?是啊,但是之后眼看天色愈发糟糕,老板担心要是气候严重起来可能公车会停班,我可能回不了家,所以就让我先下班了。阿陈见到阿黄非常开心,想到有伙伴陪他也不会那么无聊了。他们随后就边淋浴边聊起来了,正当他们聊得兴致时,阿陈问起“你有发现吗,怎么这里嗅不到潮湿的味道啊?”。这时阿黄没有回答,阿陈又纳闷起来了,心想这个小伙子真不会尊师重道,洗完了也不会通知一声。阿陈之后洗完了,并没有感觉温暖,把衣服穿好就出去大厅找阿黄了。到了大厅找不到人便坐着等,30分钟也过去了,把阿陈气怒个上头,右脚一踹就气忿忿地走出了澡堂。

  阿陈回到车上,把车子发动后就吹油门回家了。他上了高速公路,这时已是将近凌晨零时了,他看见四周的车辆心也都平静下来了,觉得这里总算正常一点,刚刚是怎么回事,感觉超不舒服的。他心血来潮,把收音机打开想说还有30分钟才到家,听听新闻解解闷。96日报导……位于吉隆坡XX一带在晚上8点左右因突如其来的暴风雨袭击酿成了严重的山崩事故,位于山上的XX公司和山脚下的XX街也都同时卷入这起事故当中,虽然已经提前疏散人群,但仍然有部分人群来不及离开,目前抢救队伍正努力搜寻罹难者,已经寻获伤者有97人,死者有…”…阿陈吓得愣着了,把车子开向了前方不远的油站停下。阿陈不停地冒冷汗,有点不知所措,对对…打给阿黄,打给他… 阿陈口吃。阿黄的手机迟迟尚未接通,不断转接语音信箱,这时阿陈下了车,走向油站里的超商买点饮料解渴,他进去之后拿了一瓶绿茶,可是当他要结账时却怎么样也没人理会他,他非常不满,就开封先喝了算,他还在向服务员争执时他眼角向外瞄了瞄自己的车子…

  他看见车里后座坐着一个人,那是阿黄… 大马路对面一群人不怕被飞快的车子撞似的,缓缓穿越了马路来到油站,他们像是约好一样都自动会避开路灯,最后站在他的车前方,看着自己……


  “…在此事故中一共发现6位死者。位于高山位置发现4具尸体,被证实其中2位是该公司的保全人员,另外两位则是该公司的理事长与白领,公司有2/3部分倒塌,证实全数当场死亡。另外山脚下也发现2具尸体,1位是该澡堂老板,据员工表示,澡堂老板事前吩咐员工先离开,自己却在做最后收拾工作,猜测因事故发生非常迅速,老板来不及逃离,才被卷入事故当中,已证实当场死亡。同时在澡堂前发现一部毁坏轿车,车里放有洗澡用具,车旁躺有一具尸体,被证实当场死亡……”……
